Diamonds bring shine back to business
|
Our nation enters into a new challenging phase of development – as the flailing economy recovers. India’s overall gross exports of gems and jewellery in January 2021 stood at $2669.92 million, showing a decline of 8% compared to January 2020. However, overall gross imports of gems and jewellery in the same month grew 14% year-on-year to $1822.89 million, reflecting the uptick in manufacturing activity and improving retail demand.
Cut and polished diamond gross exports returned to positive territory in January 2021, rising 9% to $1804.83 million as compared to $1649.14 million in January 2020. This is a sure sign of green shoots appearing in the economy owing to the efforts put in by personnel from the G & J sector.
Diamond exports are rising rapidly, despite the increase in prices of roughs, Indian diamond industry is entering a new phase of development with BDB mulling over allowing trading of lab grown diamonds and certification for lab grown diamonds brought nearly at par with that of natural diamonds. The diamond supply chain is gearing up to meet these new challenges. As the industry shines on. Shine one, shine all.
