A Week of Sparkle
The month of May saw some interesting developments in the diamond and gemstone industry. From the formation of a new lab grown diamond council to the release of the Platinum Jewellery Business Review, the resounding success of the second edition of GemGeneve, to the glamorous, diamond drenched red carpet of the International Cannes Film Festival, it is abundantly clear that the industry is forging a new path.

For an advanced understanding of the formation and history of precious gemstones, GIA's Spring 2019 issue of Gems & Gemology gives the reader an in depth look into the distinguishing features of tourmalines. This issue also provides a glimpse of history through a scientific analysis of the Talisman of Charlemagne and many other fascinating anecdotes.

The timeless allure of well crafted jewels was evident at Sotheby’s Australia’s Important Jewels Auction where the magnificent Van Cleef & Arpels pearl necklace with Cartier diamond and onyx pendant went for AUD $115,900, which was four times more than the estimate of AUD $25,000- 35,000. It’s no surprise that consumers are willing to loosen their purse strings for superior quality products.
